A Rough-and-Ready Tow Bar for Your Next Adventure

Whether you're towing commercially or just for fun, you want a tow bar that can keep up with you. With a 10,000-lb weight capacity, the Blue Ox Allure is more than up to the task. The lunette ring will hook up to your pintle hitch, giving you the umph to tow heavy vehicles and the versatility to traverse rough terrain. This lunette/pintle combo allows for a greater range of movement both horizontally and vertically; the ring is able to tilt up and down and twist left and right much more than a standard coupler and ball mount. Your toad (towed vehicle) can bounce and shift on uneven surfaces without damaging itself or the tow bar.

Easy Hookup with Telescoping and Self-Aligning Arms

Blue Ox Allure Easy Hookup

Hooking up the Allure to your RV is easy. Line up the toad behind your RV - no need to be perfect - and, with one of the tow bar arms attached to the base plate, smoothly pivot the lunette ring to your pintle hitch. Having only one arm attached gives you a lot more freedom to maneuver, and the telescoping arm will extend to the needed length and angle so you can easily reach your hitch. With the lunette ring secured, the tow bar will hold itself up as you get the other arm attached, so you won't have to wrestle with the full weight of the tow bar as you get hooked up.

Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the Allure's self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.

Blue Ox Allure Non-Binding Tow Arms

Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply press down on the Allure's non-binding levers to disengage the internal latches in the arms. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.

Sturdy Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox Allure Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox tow bars have triple-lug brackets to create an extra-secure connection to the base plate. It's a small detail with big benefits, as this crucial component of your flat tow setup is guaranteed to be tight and sturdy.

Simple Storage: Car-Mounted Tow Bar

When you're not towing, the Blue Ox Allure stays mounted on the front of your car. It takes a couple of steps to secure it in place, but once you get the hang of it, it will be quick and easy to do.

Blue Ox Allure Car-Mounted Storage

To store the tow bar, disconnect the arm on the passenger's side and then uncouple from the pintle hitch. The tow bar folds up against the front of your car, with the arms stacked on top of each other. Secure it with the included pins and you'll be set to drive around on your adventure; just be careful pulling into a parking spot as you'll need several inches of extra clearance.

Of course, you can always detach the tow bar from the base plate completely and store it elsewhere, but keep in mind, at 58 lbs, this is a seriously heavy tow bar. If you are flat towing frequently, you probably won't want to remount it for each trip. You can keep the Allure perched on the front of your car, ready to go, and won't have to find a place in your car or RV to store it.

Heavy-Duty Safety Cables Included

Blue Ox Allure Safety Cables

Included with this tow bar are 2 coiled safety cables rated at 10,000 lbs. These cables, required by law, will keep your toad behind your RV if there's ever an accidental disconnect while towing. The steel S-hooks on each end of the cables connect to the toad's base plate and the RV's trailer hitch. Spring-loaded latches make sure that the hooks stay connected.

The coiled design of these cables prevents them from dragging on the ground and getting damaged, and the vinyl coating keeps them safe from the elements so that they last you the life of the tow bar.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Pintle hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

The blue ox tow bar works great for towing our Dodge Ram 3500 behind a dump truck, grapple trucks this allows us to be able to drop off dump trucks and grapple trucks using just one guy to do this. The blue ox tow bar has more than paid for itself by cutting down man hours in half. To anyone in need of a tow bar Blue Ox would be 1st on the list. Thanks Rick

works as expected

by:

I needed a 10k tow bar to tow my 2003 Dodge 3500 4x4 on occasion. I purchased to bracket, tow bar and 2 5/16" coupler. So I've got about $1600 invested in a hitch that bent in half on its second use. After several phone calls with Blue Ox we were able to have replacement parts sent for me to make repairs if I sent the damaged parts back. Well I haven't used it since the incident and will probably never use it again. So in short I wouldn't recommend a Blue Ox hitch to do any type of towing.

I have been using Roadmaster products on my cars for the last 3 years with absolutely no problem. I guess I should have just broke down and used the motorhome mount 10k hitch they offer.

by:

I upgraded to the Allure tow bar from a Blue Ox Acclaim. I'm very satisfied with the performance of the Allure. I tow commercially and was going through an Acclaim tow bar every 15 months or so. Upgrading to the Allure should give me greater longevity and provides me with greater distance between my tow vehicle and the vehicle I'm driving. My one comment that I have is that I have to disassemble, clean, lubricate and adjust the tow bar every time I come home from towing. the extendible arms are will develop heavy rust in short order if you don't lubricate often. I use marine grade waterproof grease. Live any device proper maintenance preserves it's lifespan.

by:

Poorly designed I’ve had to replace parts and repair mine several times since I’ve had it especially the locking springs. They have bent and allowed the tow bar to collapse driving down the interstate. Very weak product.

by:

One piston got bent, but blue ox inspected and sent me a new piston it cost me but I was very pleased.

by:

Non-binding? No. The latches can't be released with any pressure on them. In addition, this tow bar still uses the old-style latch design. The springs that operate the latches are prone to failure. I hope that someday soon Blue Ox will introduce a tow bar with the interchangeable coupling design like this one, but with the improved latch design used on most of their current tow bars.

by:

The product looks and feels solid. The plan of using is to tow 2008 Ford Ranger behind large trucks. Took for a spin, works as expected. Note that the part is heavy. More reviews after longer usage will be provided.

Well made, there is one major issue in have as a commercial transporter. The mechanism that slides the arms out fail. If you need to stop quickly they fail. E-traler is a 5 star company.

Hey Keith. I'm really sorry to hear what happened. In my experience, when the arms fail there is continuous hard braking. Not to sound accusatory but I just want to make sure that you are using a braking system. If you are, let me know what braking system you are using, and I can help walk through some troubleshooting with you.

by:

Ordered on a Friday and received them on Monday. its good to know there are some companies out there that did not get caught up in the COVID delivery delay like everyone else. Thank E-Trailer for good service

It broke already

If you decide to go with a lunette ring tow bar then the Blue Ox Allure Tow Bar part # BX7460P which is rated for 10,000 lbs will work well with your 2017 Ford F-350 that weighs 8,500 lbs.
